Enrique Rojas wrote:The Philadelphia Phillies have talked to Pedro Martinez and his agent about a possible comeback similar to last year, when the right-hander was a starting pitcher for the National League champions in August and into the postseason.
"We have talked to his agent, but there's nothing so far," Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. "We have talked. We are not negotiating or anything like that, but we have talked to him. It also depends on whether he wants to play or not."
Sources close to Martinez told ESPNdeportes.com that he plans to pitch in the second half of the season and that he is undergoing a physical conditioning regimen in the Dominican Republic and Miami....
Amaro said talks between the team, Martinez and his agent began "a few weeks ago. We have talked to Pedro, but we don't know [yet]."

So I guess that eliminates the Red Sox.

43-29 - 1.5GB - 8-2 in their last 10, could theoretically be in first after tonight, so no, that does not eliminate the redsox, which is where he will probably go.

Check me on this, but it is impossible to be 1.5GB on a given day and end up in 1st place unless you're playing two, preferably vs. the team ahead of you.
But you do make a good point.
If the Philadelphia Phillies aren't interested in Pedro Martinez, he may be a good fit for the Los Angeles Dodgers. But the clocks ticking.
Pedro Martinez spent last year with the Philadelphia Phillies for the second half of the season. "Each day that passes by makes it more difficult for me to come back," Martinez told Quebec-based RDS TV at a charity softball game in Montreal last weekend. "I was hoping to go to the World Series and spend one more season in the big leagues.
"Not getting the right team, not getting the right offer, not getting the right position for me to go and play is making it really difficult."
