I imagine they hit us on the counter?

I missed it, too. Going to have to wait until the half to find out what happened.

no counter, I was distracted by the UVM hockey game but if I remember it correctly a little flick on squibbed away and found itself right at the feet of a slv player who was possibly offside.

So we're down 2-0. That's probably bad.

When the bar I was at showed the highlights and Frankie scored the tying goal I yelled real loud and everyone sorta glared at me.

Great to see that they didn't give up on themselves. Let's spin this as a character building game.

You're telling me you really don't know the Fightin FC Midtjylland's? In all seriousness, spend 3% less time on here each day and read soccerbyives.net. It'll be worth it.

Thoughts on the game:
1. Donovan and Beas really did not do much for me. Not actively bad or anything, just you'd like to see more from the vets.

2. I'm so over Pearce at left back and I'm surprised Califf was the first option to replace Gooch (I thought it would have been Demerit). It's time to get Spector in there for Pearce.

3. Sacha has not been good the last 2 qualifiers. Granted he's not in season/ in form. I'm willing to give Kljestan another shot, but let's give Torres some run. I'd rather not go back to Mastroeni (I found it fascinating that he wasn't first off the bench (Torres) or even second (Edu)).

4. Jozy. Yeah Jozy.

5. The amount of laying down and feigning cramps by the Salvadorans was infuriating

Hypothetically, what does it mean for a team to go into administration? I've got a friend who cheers for a team that has this rumor floating around. Is it bankruptcy?

it means the current ownership can no longer pay the bills of the club but the process of administration allows the business to continue- so not quite bankruptcy, but pretty close. Administrators take it over and try and get the club a new owner or force it to start selling off assets.

what is it about brackets in an url that this board doesnae like?

Kruker's query reminded me of this article about Leeds and how they financially imploded shortly after making the semi-finals of the champions league. It's a good account and well worth a read - it was at this period that UK football was doing a fine job of overextending itself financially and leeds was one of the best examples:

Where Leeds had bought a player for, say £5 million, Ranson would find a financial institution that would advance the club exactly that sum. In return Leeds would have to pay back this money, with interest, over the course of the player's contract - typically four years.

Though known for shorthand purposes as a 'sale-and-leaseback' arrangement, it is in most respects a conventional short-term loan, just as if you or I were borrowing £10,000 to buy a car. In the same way that, if we fail to make payments, the bank will take away the car, so if the club doesn't keep up payments the lender can make it sell the player and hand over the proceeds.

Because lenders were wary of football clubs, however, they required extra security. For one, these loans were not tied exclusively to the player: if for some reason the sale didn't cover the debt - say the player's market value had declined - the bank could claim the difference from the club. And then came the part that was the Ray Ranson speciality: the whole deal was insured with a German-based insurance company, Gerling, so that in the very worst case, if the club went bankrupt, the insurer would cover the lender's loss.

cue floppy quote about Wenger's sensible financial management.

Edit. It's a two parter. Here's the second bit.

yeah I dont know why Id talk about that. We should be greatly overextending ourselves transfers wise, and I should be proud of it.

Bet the folk in South Africa are currently sending much love up that direction.

got this link e-mailed to me by one of my lecturers first thing this morning, and everyone on my course is expected to discuss it online today, which feels slightly ghoulish.

I would love to know who thought it was a good idea to let the match go ahead after the collapse of one of the gates into the stadium.

So I didn't get to watch the U.S. game on Saturday, but from everything I'm reading about Torres's play, it seems like Kljestan might have just torpedoed his international career over these last two games.

I think they're/we're overstating things here a bit... Torres was fine. I don't think he was sensational or anything. It's just that Sacha really wasn't fine and the pickup was massive. I'm not sure why anyone would be surprised though - Torres plays for Pachuca, who you've said plenty of times is no joke. His season started a while ago. Sacha's played one game this year.

The good thing for Edu/Mastro/Torres/Kljestan/even Adu is that there are going to be a ton of chances to get in the mix over the next 4-5 months with the qualifiers and Gold Cup/Confed Cups.
