My mom-mom passed away in April, she was a huge Phillies & Flyers fan, she loved Pat Burrrell. She would have loved tonights game. She's loving this one!!!!
Both my grandpops. One got me to like the Phils by having the game on every Sunday when I came to visit. The other who took me to my first game and convinced me to stop liking Chris James.
First, John Vukovich is smiling a big time smile right now.
On a personal note, I lost my little league coach and best friend a few years back. He was a Reds fan but was a Phillies guy too. I know he's smiling tonight, drinking a beer, smoking a cig, looking down on us. We're thinking about you Win.
To my grandfather who died in November 1993, and my grandmother, his wife who carried on as a phan until she passed in 2006. He would watch the Phillies until they made him angry and frustrated. Then he would turn off the TV and go outside or go do something else, only to return 10 minutes later. That's the thing about this team. You can't let go, once they've got a hold on you. And look at them now. Can you believe it, Papa?
For my grandmother who passed away earlier this year and was a huge Phillies fan still at 94. I am sure her view was better then my big old TV. I miss her a lot when I think how happy she would have been to share last night's world series moment. I love you gram.
My Dad's old friend Bill Harper. He died of throat cancer a few years back, between the 2003 and 2004 seasons. One of the biggest Phillies/baseball fans you'll ever meet.
"I'm in a bar with the games sound turned off and that Cespedes home run still sounded like inevitability."
My uncle Dave who passed away in 05 suddenly at age 57, was a HUGE Phila sports fan, he worked as a teenager at Connie Mack, selling peanuts n stuff... rip... I know you're shining down smiling and high-fiving me to see our boys as champs!
