Why?

Why?

Postby Philly the Kid » Tue Oct 28, 2008 18:50:18

I gotta wonder why this stuff happens to Phila. phans? I can't even really wrap my head around it? One minute Cole Hamels is throwing a gem of a game, we have a 2-1 lead and the momentum, the next thing I know we are part of some kind of strange WS historical moment of unprecedented occurences. Regardless of what MLB wants, what Fox wants, and simple bad luck of the weather -- something feels terribly unfair. Not clear whether or not TB got benefit from the weather -- it could be argued they did as I heard Cole said as much, etc... but to stop in the middle is what is troubling. It looks to us like they kept pushing it onward hoping TB would tie or take the lead. They could have made the decision in the middle of the 5th when the game became official. The weather was already bad at that point. Waited an hour to see if it improved. So that feels messed up. If the Phils had to pitch and defend in those conditions in the 6th, then why not the Rays having to as well? That's what bugs me. They should have finished the 6th. Let TB deal with the same conditions. If we're still tied, so be it. If we take the lead, so be it. They can suspend still, still give the Rays their last 3 innings, but now its all lopsided weird and unfair.

It's not really a continuation of a game when it gets separated by so long. It's a new game with new dynamics. People have ate and slept and whatever. It's no longer the same game except on paper.

What really I don't get, is how this happened to the Phils? Why? Over 100 years of World Series and never before anything quite like this??

I truly hope that fate is with us, and we close them out with the last 3 innings, no need to bat in the 9th and just have a collective sigh of relief -- I can't let myself begin to go down the road of what could happen now. But clearly, the emotional edge goes to TB, who now feels more relaxed. Those dynamics effect outcomes. They were stressed down 3-1 the Phils were hot, had the lead, best pitcher and now they sort of escaped all that. They still have to perform, but the conditions are new and they are mentally and emotionally in a better place. We are now in the role of being the entity feeling ripped of, jipped etc... Doesn't mean we can't overcome it. But it's really just so wrong on so many levels.

Selig is an abomination and has always been so. I can't wait for him to be out of the game.

So sucks... and what kills me personally -- is that as jaded a negadelphian I have been for so long, on Game 5 night -- i was really positive and relaxed and excited and tried to be the glass is half full guy. And look where it got me.... some crazeology MLB scenario...

Will it feel the same even if we win in 3 inning game? I hope so. I feel terribly cheated. I know MLB didn't plan the weather, I don't know how deep the conspiracies run or not? But something is clearly uncool re: the Phils treatment in this situation. I really hope we clinch this thing despite it all.

But I've been walking around all day bewildered that this really has happened to us???

I needed to vent...

If there is a need for a Game 6 or 7 WHY can't it be on Sat and Sun? Forgetting Fox n all that, why not simply play Wed/Thurs to wrap up game 5, travel on the 5th and finish up on the weekend. Who wants to play on Halloween anyway? That's weird.

Feel free to put any kind of "why" in this thread...

I think at least part of it was an attempt by the universe at preemptive vengeance for that pun. The good news is, now that the pun has happened, we should be in the clear. :)

Somebody call the WAAAHmbulance!

Seriously. Shit happens to every team. Can you imagine if the Eagles had lost a playoff game because of the Tuck Rule? We still wouldn't be over it.

This is aggravating. But as I wrote during Game Three, our guys are much more mentally tough than I am, probably than most of us (exemptions: Shore, Wiz, probably a few others) are. They're getting this done.

Escaped. To Delaware. They're hiding in a motel at an undisclosed location now.

Since game 5 is being played over the course of 3 days, it counts as 3 wins. Duh.

I was just thinking the same thing. This squad has at least one more reach-deep moment in it.

No sales tax. That can be pretty comforting.

i keep describing it to people as a stay of execution for the Rays. Selig played the governor with the call before midnight while they were walking towards the gallows.

Rays luxuriate at the Hotel du Pont

"Quite frankly, it's one of the nicest hotels we've stayed in all year," said Rays manager Joe Maddon. "If you're going to have to have a postponement, you might as well stay here. ... People have treated us wonderfully."
