"Tampa Bay Rays World Series: Phils' fans live down to their reputation"

http://www.tampabay.com/sports/baseball/rays/article873330.ece

Children were cursed at, and one 9-year-old boy had beer poured on him. A Rays family member stayed locked in a bathroom stall because, he said, Phillies fans were banging on the walls and threatening him.

Team officials were reluctant to talk about the situation for fear of stirring up more hostility, but they acknowledged they had extensive discussions with Major League Baseball and Phillies officials before Game 4 on Sunday.

I was at Saturday night's game and I was actually surprised at the amount of Rays fans in attendance. I also saw them being pretty brash and walking down the concourse ringing cowbells and being antagonistic.

Dunno, if you want to be be bold, I think you need to be ready for some response.

FWIW, I've heard from Red Sox and Phillies fans that attended games in St. Petersburg that the crowd was pretty trashy there.

Baha, just got this.

Dear "Rays Fan",

Recently, you registered on raysbaseball.com for the chance to purchase tickets for 2008 postseason games to be played at Tropicana Field. Unfortunately, your entry was not selected for the chance to purchase tickets to World Series Game 6.

By entering the Rays Postseason Ticket Opportunity, you've also registered for the chance to purchase tickets to a potential World Series Game 7 to be played at Tropicana Field, should tickets be made available. Drawing dates for those games have not yet been determined, but you will receive an email if you've won the opportunity to purchase tickets to that game.

If inventory remains for any of the World Series games that may be played at Tropicana Field, they will be made available to the general public on raysbaseball.com.

Thank you for participating in the 2008 Postseason Ticket Opportunity.

I don't doubt that there is a lot of nonsense going on by adults at the games. However, I really would like to call BS on these stories of little kids having mustard thrown at and beer poured on them.
"I tell all kids not to use that word. If they're 29 and they win the World Series, I think they can say that.
But I definitely would say to all the kids out there, 'Kids, it's a bad word. Don't say it. And I'm dead serious.' "

"Down by the dugout I had a good time with a bunch of guys sitting in the stands," said Rays manager Joe Maddon. "I was actually giving a guy a hard time for drinking Coors Light in Philadelphia. I said, 'Where's the Schmidt's? At least some Rolling Rock. Don't be going with Coors Light.' It's so unfashionable for a Philly dude. I was all over him about that, so we had a good time.

I'm glad that Maddon is not able to bust my seeds, then again I was drinking a 120 minute IPA.

I don't know if we have acknowledged this at all yet but I think Joe Maddon seems to be a pretty cool guy and is probably awesome to play for. The Rays are a talented club but I think there is little doubt that their success is largely linked to Maddon. All that said, f- the Rays!

I cannot really say if Maddon is a cool guy to play for or not. The Rays are pretty loose if they can blow off the ump jumping on them for calling pitches from the dugout. All the quotes and stuff reeks of Phil Jackson Zen management. He can obviously herd cats.
