Just read something that the racists out there are claiming the kid in the car was being chased by a mob of angry counter protestors and didn't mean to run anyone down. He was scared for his life.

You talk politics with a lot of people in real life. God help you.
When I hear Rev stories, I imagine how I would handle them. I've tried this with success (sample size = 1):
"Is there any evidence that would cause you to change your mind on this issue? What would that evidence possibly look like? How would you know that the evidence is true or not?" If the person says nothing would change their mind, then you know to disengage, because the person is approaching politics as a faith-based exercise, independent of reality or changes in reality. If the person cannot come up with what it would take to change their mind, then they are not seeking truth. If the person is open-minded, encourage the other person to come up with ideas for what evidence would look like. "How would you evaluate whether healthcare policy is good? Who would do the evaluation? Is there data out there that could answer that question?"

no shots fired, 20 injured, 1 citizen death, 2 police from that helicopter that crashed, circumstances still not entirely clear on that.

Someone on MSNBC said it right: when a group of people bring torches, shields, bats, and guns to a march, the right to protest is no longer a reason why police should not intervene.
If black people protesting injustices while holding only signs can draw a militarized police force with tear gas, so should these hate groups with weapons.
