World Series Game 5 Thread: Switch to NO/ATL at 8:30!

Postby lowcountry » Mon Nov 02, 2009 18:28:20

I believe. And not that silly fake internet bravado "I believe" bullshit. No, this is a true, to-the-core belief that Cliff Lee will lead the Phils to victory tonight. And then Pedro will outduel Pettitte in Game 6.

I don't know WTF will happen in Game 7, but I know the Yankees will be as tight as any team could possibly be after having blown two chances to finish off the Phils.

It is fucking on.

even though I've not been able to watch the last two games, I've been full on psyched for both. Tonight, I think I'm more proud to be a phils fan than ever. I've always said this year, that so long as we go down fighting till the end, I've no complaints. Yeah, it's the Yankees and yeah, it sticks in the craw, but if we lose this year, we'll be back next year. We're not going anywhere in a hurry.

(Open letter to the Philadelphia Phillies)

Dear Phillies,

In May, this team went into New York and faced the Yankees best three pitchers: A.J. Burnett, Andy Pettitte, and C.C. Sabathia on successive days. This team outperformed the Yankees on those three days, and should have won three straight. In fact, had this team's pitching staff held the Yankees to no more than three runs in each of those games, it would've swept baseball's highest paid juggernaut. The Phillies scored at least 4 runs in each of those games. Life is about second chances, and this is your second chance to beat Burnett, Pettitte, and Sabathia in three straight games. Play the same way you did in May--save for a fateful ninth inning collapse--and you'll earn redemption for that series, and the ultimate second chance: A second chance to call yourselves world champions.

Score alot of runs early, so that Cliff only has to pitch 1-2 innings, saving him for Game 6, pushing Pedro back to Game 7 and the Phillies don't have to bother the drama queen about pitching again this season.

A strange calmness has come over me. Same type of feeling I get when I get ready to watch a team coached by Andy play. Tonight we're the better team. I feel it.
