I got the same impression. As if Lee was saying: "You suck. I'm not even going to waste my time making an effort to catch your weak ass pop up. Tex is on deck."

This is the major leagues, you're not supposed to hit 15 foot popups to the pitcher. If you did that in HS it's embarrassing
