i think this year more than ever they are aware of how poor it is. the yankees series especially (since no one gives a $#@! about our series outside of philly) has had some smoking guns....

They're probably aware of it, but they never do anything about it. This isn't the first year the umpiring has been bad--there were lousy calls (that went both ways) in our WS last year. There are every year.
My issue is that nobody is ever fired, or even held out of postseason assignments (which confer bonus $ IIRC) after they make awful mistakes. Everybody else in life has to be accountable. Why not the umps?
