Did not read much of this thread, so I apologize if this was covered already.

What I saw last night, even from Jimmy in the first inning when he made an out, was a lot of patience and discipline at the plate. Jimmy saw a lot of pitches, I think that helped him later and helped others in the lineup see where they could exploit Kuroda.

My general impression is that, with the exception of Utley, these guys succeed offensively because their talent overcomes their lack of discipline and game smarts. But last night, they all looked like Pete Rose up there. Even Jimmy and Vic. Loved it.

Phils have one of the most disciplined lineups in the majors.

um, they have like 15 walks in three games vs. the Dodgers. They have 34 walks in the playoffs...the Angels are second with 19

Yeah I wonder if Pete Rose ever hit a ball as hard as Werth hit that bomb last night. Or even as hard as Howard's triple.

Personally, I think the fastballs right down the middle helped everyone see where they could exploit Kuroda

I suspected I'd be challenged on my impression there.

Regarding "game smarts" -- seems like Utley has a lot, Victorino, a lot less. On target?

Why are you focusing on this? We just won 11-0. Of all the things to potentially complain about with our team, getting men on base is far down the list

With all due respect TP, suggesting this team doesn't have "game smarts" could be one of the silliest things I've read here in awhile.

Really wasn't complaining. WFC and all that, and now a genuine threat to repeat, coming off a dominating win. Not even concerned over the ugly loss in game 2 -- stuff like that happens, even to good teams.

I was just delighted by all the deep counts and plate discipline I saw last night.

I'll play along, although it would have been nice for you to provide some evidence for your hyperbole.

I'd argue that the Phillies are savvy on the basepaths as evidenced by the them having the best SB % in baseball.

I'd also argue that having the second fewest errors in baseball (and the third best fielding %) is proof of a steady and solid team in the field.

Not to mention, if this team was made up of a bunch of baseball illiterates, would they be able to be WFCs or three-time division winners?

Sure, I'm delighted by it too... because it meant the Phillis were doing exactly what they are doing all the time. The team has shown excellent plate discipline all year and it's a big part of why they lead the league in runs.

As an aside on that note, is anyone else tired of talking heads mention that the Dodgers "lead the league in hitting"? I've heard folks on both MLBN and TBS say it multiple times even though the Phillies lead the league in runs scored by a solid margin. I mean, is the media still so unenlightened that they consider BA to equal "hitting". If you mean highest average, say "highest average".

It drove me nuts, Bob.
