Fletcher has been a god send. Some guys would have come in and traded the Frosts/Farabees of the world to get a big name player and “make a splash” (this has been the Flyers way after all). Instead, the moves he has made have been smart, calculated and he hasn’t mortgaged any part of the future.

Hired Vigneault (who actually plays the young kids)
Traded Gudas for Niskanen
Overpaid in the Braun trade but he’s playing excellent right now
Gave good, long term contracts to TK/Provy
Signed Hayes
Quality depth additions at deadline for minuscule price
York looks like a future stud (Brink isn’t too shabby either!)

Look at the age of the core, the results we are getting already, we have a lot of guys already signed for years to come, and this is without Lindblom/Patrick. Plus this farm system. This is the best set up the franchise has been in at least 25 years.

Agree--the strength of the farm isn't due to Fletcher, but he hasn't pissed it away. And I agree that he didn't have to make a splash. Hopefully Patrick can be a big "addition" in March.

1000%. And that Hextall somehow had a blind spot the size of Texas for him.

And I am not stupid, and I will back up that comment by saying that I understand we added Hayes, Niskanen, Braun, etc. to the roster. Different team. But you really see that this team plays together, they're a cohesive unit, and they're just flying right now. I'm still not sure what Hakstol's system entailed.

Hockey and Football are sports where a new coach and system can change a team more than any other sports imo. This season some of the young guys stepping up have helped a lot as well as the new guys.

The fact that the young guys were even allowed to see the ice at this level was a stark organizational change from the last 4 years

Yeah I completely disagree with this. It’s the biggest game of the season, let the kid play

My guess is since Elliot played so well last time they played the Caps they want to give him a chance, plus Hart has a ton of big games coming up down the stretch. He probably gets the next 4 or 5 games including Thursday.
