The golf thread - A tradition like many others

But how great is it that Tiger almost won on a course he has zero business contending on.

I think he's gonna win at least one more major before he's done. And hopefully a few more tour events.

You can make a case for Justin Thomas being better than DJ but they are at very close in rankings and wins this year.

3 wins in the last six majors.

In his last 17 majors his finishes are 67, 39, 33, 21, 18, 15, 13, 13, 11, 10, 6, 5, 4, 4, 1, 1, 1

6 top 5's
8 top 10's
13 top 20's

He's made 18 of 20 cuts in the majors (his last 18 straight) with 14 top 25's.

He's clearly the best golfer in the world right now in majors.

He said in his post-win interview that his attention wanders in other tournaments. I guess it takes a major to get him to "lock in".

It was interesting to me to see Adam Scott, who is built like a wide-receiver, Woods, who is built like a safety, and Koepka, whose build reminds me of a linebacker all playing the same sport together. (To say nothing of Shane Lowry, who is built like an O-lineman.) It's great that golf doesn't seem to place any body type at a disadvantage.

Ryder Cup should be incredible this year. Have to think Tiger clinched his roster spot yesterday.

Does Phil make it?

They both probably do, funny that Phil is still ahead of Tiger in the rankings 10 and 11 are their current rankings.

Phil has his streak going and was a big part of the last team and molding the future of how they will handle the teams going forward.

Yeah, I think Furyk picks the guys who are 9-12 on the rankings (DeChambeau, Mickeleson, Woods, Schauffele). Maybe names Kuchar and Zach Johnson as assistant captains.

Tiger and Phil are obvious picks. Even though Phil has not played well lately. I think the other two are still up in the air. Tiger likes Bryson and everyone likes Kuch so I wouldn't count him out either.

He's an absolute monster. Rough weekend this week though.

The knock on DJ is always going to be his Majors performance and wins in those big events. If you go back 365 days Thomas has been better since he won the 2017 PGA Championship as well as the Fed Ex Cup. DJ has been slightly better this season than JT.

yeah, in the end you're really splitting hairs with these two right now.

I think if I was Furyk I'd go ahead and just say Tiger and Phil are in now barring injury. And let everyone else know that they're playing for the last two spots in the FedEx Cup. No one in the Xander/Finau/Bryson/Stanley/Kuch etc. group has really done anything to stand out so maybe take the hottest guy (PiP'd) and pick one that you think fits the course really well, if that's anyone.

Honestly still think that approach at 15 is going to go in when I watch the replay.
