Best chance was probably when we parked at a nice spot by the second green for a while and watched the last six or seven groups come through (Koepka's birdie putt was great). I probably stood out because I was one of the few people who wasn't dressed as if I were playing in the tournament
This was my fourth US Open in the past five years and probably the most enjoyable. A big part of that was because the weather was perfect for most of the day, but it's also a great course for spectators. Totally get that watching golfers struggle doesn't make for the best television but it was fun as hell is person.
I don't mind a course that's difficult, but it's got to be playable, and not require a lighthouse and a clown's mouth. Make it hard but fair. A softly hit approach that lands 5 yards short of the flag shouldn't be routinely rolling off the back of the green and down a 40-foot hill. Pebble Beach in 1992, especially in he last round, was extremely hard put playable. It didn't require calliope music as a background soundtrack.
I claim to be no expert of golf... but let me get this straight, Phil Mickelson, who has dedicated his entire life to the game of golf, was not supposed to have run through that scenario in his head ever? And an article like this https://sports.yahoo.com/u-s-open-phil- ... 42033.html needed to be written describing him as the worst person on the planet in human history? GTFO.
You'd think he'd taken his club and beat a fan to death from the reactions I've heard.
