-- Jose Oquendo is back as 3B coach after spending two years as a special assistant to the GM due to health concerns
-- Mike Shildt moves from 3BC to bench coach to replace Bell
-- Willie McGee was hired as an assistant coach

bp paywall temporarily down for the roll-out of their new look. i just found a must read bp article (inspired by a mattwinks blog post a few weeks back) about defensive position adjustments:
need to talk defense

for the phils it's particularly relevant to the coming decisions about who should play ss-2b-3b [where we currently have 5 high-level players of whom 3 guys who could play 2nd, 2 who could play ss, and 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 who be a decent 3b]...
and also to the best choice for how to use the 3 or 4 (if you count quinn) young, mlbcaliber outfielders we have that plausibly can play all 3 positions decently...
and also to the possibility of using one bench spot for a combo 3rd catcher and backup 1b/3b...
and also to the choice next offseason of whom to move where if/when we add a fa 3b or ss or 2b.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Oakland A's catcher, Bruce Maxwell, is in police custody after being arrested at his Scottsdale home Saturday night.

Police told ABC15, they were called to Maxwell's home after a female food delivery worker told them he pointed a gun at her.

Maxwell was booked on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Scottsdale police said he was still in custody as of Sunday morning, awaiting his initial court appearance in front of a judge.

Maxwell made headlines last month for becoming the first Major League Baseball player to kneel for the national anthem; following the movement started by San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick in response to police treatment of African Americans.

Then, just last week, Maxwell told TMZ that he was denied service at an Alabama restaurant with a city council member due to his protest.

I had a dream last night that I was watching baseball, and when JD Martinez hit a homerun, I ran to my computer to add him to my fantasy team. I distinctly remember searching for JD, and then wondering if I needed to add periods to his name for it to work in the search. I fistpumped when he was available, because I was worried that bleh or Readingphilly had already scooped him up.
